A gorgeous antique, early Edwardian 9ct gold spider brooch.
The body is made from a beautiful cultured pearl with cool tones and the eyes are set with tiny demantoid garnet cabochons.
Set into 9ct yellow gold and mounted onto a 9ct gold bar brooch, this is a versatile piece and would also make a great tie or cravat pin..
The Victorian's began somewhat of an obsession with insect themed jewels from scarabs to spiders, entomology was increasingly popular with insects appearing in many places not least jewellery.
They were seen as an exotic fashion and this carried on into the early 20th century.
Marked 9ct on the bar brooch.
It has a pin and a c type clasp fastener.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, very slight bend in the pin of the brooch in two places, light patina and surface wear commensurate with age.
