There is something quite magical about antique gold propelling pencils, perhaps for me it is the fact that the Victorian's managed to turn such a simple everyday object into something so beautiful.
They were renowned for this though and this pretty antique 9ct gold example is no exception, with its wonderful engraving and delicate design.
The pencil has the original slider, this makes the tip of the pencil extend outward to use for writing and retract when not in use to protect the lead from breaking, it has a smooth red Sardonyx seal top which has not been carved so could be personalised if desired.
It comes complete with an antique gold jump ring ready to use and perfect for adding to your favourite antique chain or neck mess or wearing with a nice plain black ribbon.
Perhaps one of the sweetest things about this is the personal inscription, To HJ from HJ, a gift to oneself perhaps? Or two friends or family members with the same initials?
Marks and era:
It is unmarked, tests as 9ct gold, English make c1880s, late Victorian era.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some light surface wear commensurate with age, slider can be stiff, no lead currently.
Approx measurements:
3" length fully extended
0.25" width at the widest point
Approx 5.67 grams weight
