Vintage 9ct yellow gold Onyx and garnet signet ring.
An attractive and chunky gold signet ring with a central black polished onyx panel star set with a single garnet in silver.
It has a smooth yellow gold band with heavy tapering shoulders.
It is fully hallmarked for 9ct gold, Birmingham 1983
Signet rings derive their name from the Latin for signature, they were popular throughout history in men's jewellery and were often carved with family crests or signatures and used as stamps or intaglios, later they remained popular as a fashion choice and they have remained a popular piece of mens jewellery since their creation.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some light surface wear, commensurate with age, some light surface scratches to the band, band slightly off round
