Antique Victorian silver pendant brooch, Portrait, sterling silver
Antique Victorian silver pendant brooch, Portrait, sterling silver
A very unusual Victorian pendant brooch.
It is a Mourning pieve and most likely contained hairwork or a hand painted portrait but now contains a melancholy hand tinted portrait of two children, probably siblings.
It has a sterling silver frame with lovely engraved scrolls around the edge and a solid silver back.
This can be worn as a brooch or a pendant, the current picture is landscape and it has been used as a brooch but the picture can easily be replaced.
It fastens with an old c type clasp and pin fastener, the pin is a replacement and it has a bend in it, it is made of brass and protrudes slightly from the brooch.
Marks and era:
Unmarked, tests as sterling silver, c1870s, Victorian era.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, surface wear commensurate with age and use, some marks to the picture itself, pin is a base metal replacement with a bend in it
