Antique Georgian mourning brooch, 9ct gold, Flat cut Garnet, Lace pin
Antique Georgian mourning brooch, 9ct gold, Flat cut Garnet, Lace pin
The Georgians were a sentimental bunch and it shows, not least in their beautiful Mourning pieces.
This sweet antique Mourning brooch or lace pin is a typical design of the Georgian era that remained popular throughout the 19th century.
It is a small piece in a rectangular shape with a halo of flat cut Garnets around the outer rim, the Garnets encompassing a tiny glazed panel with woven hairwork beneath.
It is crafted in 9ct rose gold and has an old c type clasp and pin fastener.
Due to it's small size it was most probably a lace pin, used to secure the lengths of lace or fichu at the neck of both men and women, today it could be worn in many ways, on a collar or lapel, swagged on a chain or in a hat!
