There are a number of stories behind the origins of the keeper ring stretching far back to the Georgian eras.
One was that they were worn as guard rings when jewels were worn over gloved hands, another and perhaps the most commonly known is that they are used to hold or keep more expensive rings in place by wearing them above.
The other and the most romantic version of the origin is that they were worn as pre marriage rings, basically saying that the intended wearer was a keeper.

Good used condition overall, some light surface wear commensurate with age, previous resize, a little tarnish to the reverse.
