Antique 9ct gold seal fob pendant, Faithful and Secret, Carnelian

There is something extra special and quite simply mesmerising about antique seal fobs particularly when carved with wonderfully intriguing symbols and mottos.

This fine antique intaglio seal fob is crafted in a 9ct yellow gold casing with an unusual design and a shield shaped matrix.

It is set with a rich red carnelian stone which has been carved with a lock and key and the words Faithful and Secret.

This motto could lead us to a number of presumptions, perhaps it was a seal used in communication with two star crossed lovers, or a much revered confidant whom kept their identity under wraps, who knows the true origin but nonetheless it's telling us that the bearer was faithful and could keep a secret, well under lock and key!

A wonderful historic piece, it looks fantastic worn on an antique gold chain or attached to a nice gold Albert chain.

It is unmarked, tests as 9ct gold cased, Victorian era, c1860s

Condition:
Good used condition overall, signs of use and wear commensurate with age, some light surface wear, very well kept.
