We love this unusual antique, Victorian era Scottish agate and silver cross brooch.
It has such a design made up of smooth polished sections of various different agates including banded agate across the middle forming the cross and a rich inky black outer ring.
The cool silver bezel frame encasing the agates perfectly, it has a smooth stone backed reverse.
A particularly lovely example, very versatile and can be worn in many ways with a lovely unique design.
It is a fairly large sized brooch and it has an old C type clasp and pin fastener.
Marks and era:
Unmarked, tests as sterling silver, Victorian era, c1880s
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some light surface wear commensurate with age, some tiny nibbles to some edges of the agates, one of the red agates has a fissure running through it but this is not surface reaching.
Approx measurements:
1.75" width
1.75" length
Weighs approx 19.26 grams
