Antique moonstone scorpion brooch, Victorian 22ct gold

A gorgeous antique moonstone scorpion brooch.

It is unusual to find a Victorian scorpion brooch in gold, they are more commonly found in silver and even the silver ones are hard to come by.

Blue toned oval and Round moonstone cabochons set into a rich yellow gold.

The gold is unmarked but tests as a high carat 22ct - 24ct gold.

It has a C type clasp fastening in base metal, on the underside, the moonstones are in a slightly open setting.

There are solder marks to the underside, possible repairs, a repair to one side near the claw and this has caused discolouration to the end moonstone, one leg has been repaired and shows some tarnish.

Moonstones are in good condition with very light surface wear, one discoloured.

The gold being a high content gold is softer and more prone to dents and scratches.
