Antique Garnet cabochon ring, 18ct gold, Bird mask, Edwardian
Antique Garnet cabochon ring, 18ct gold, Bird mask, Edwardian
This handsome antique 18ct gold Garnet cabochon ring has a little hidden secret.
Those magnificently designed shoulders feature a bird mask design, very unique and surely a specially commissioned piece.
When turned on its side you can see the finely detailed bird mask in low relief with finely engraved detailing beneath, this is the type of mask you would see at a masquerade ball, perhaps it was that the wearer frequented such parties? We will never know.
The ring has a slim gold band and the face is set with a large rich red garnet cabochon.
This ring definitely has an air of mystery to it and I can only wonder who it originally belonged to.
A beautiful piece, suitable for men or women it is a fairly large statement piece so could easily be worn alone or stacked with other pieces for a maximalist look.
