A gorgeous and unusual antique Austro-Hungarian locket pendant.
Reminiscent of the renaissance revival styles this locket is heavily gem set to the front, gems include Garnet, Turquoise and malachite.
The garnets are almandine garnets adorning the outer rim in different cuts and intercepted by turquoise, there is a further border of turquoise surrounding the large central malachite cabochon, a lovely combination of stones, typically Austro-Hungarian in style.
The locket has an engraved reverse and a gem set bale and is crafted in 800 silver.
The locket is marked 800 and a makers mark at the bale, 19th century.
Internally it is gilt lined and can hold a small photograph or keepsake, no glazed covers.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, aged patina to the silver, some stones with surface scratches / nibbles, opens and closes securely, surface wear commensurate with age and use.
Approx measurements:
1" width
1.75" height including the bale.
