A gorgeous gents vintage 9ct gold and onyx signet ring.
Rubover setting with heavy tapering shoulders, the front is set with a smooth onyx cabochon and this is has a central star set diamond chip.
The gold star mount of the diamond has small pierced accents giving an illusion type finish.
It has an open back.
It is a chunky heavy piece, very well made, the inside of the band is fully hallmarked for 9ct gold, London assay, 1976.
Signet rings derive their name from the Latin for signature, they were popular throughout history in men's jewellery and were often carved with family crests or signatures and used as stamps or intaglios, later they remained popular as a fashion choice and they have remained a popular piece of mens jewellery since their creation.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some light surface wear and some surface scratches to the gold, commensurate with age, a small nick to the onyx in one corner, diamond lozenge slightly moved away from centre.
