A handsome vintage 9ct gold and onyx signet ring.
A huge polished, smooth onyx stone in a 9ct gold rubover setting.
It has decorative grooved shoulders tapering down to the smooth gold band, this is a seriously chunky piece, a definite statement ring.
It has a closed back.
The ring has an engraved message on the inner band, To Cecil love Cathy, the ring is marked 9k, American made.
Signet rings derive their name from the Latin for signature, they were popular throughout history in men's jewellery and were often carved with family crests or signatures and used as stamps or intaglios, later they remained popular as a fashion choice and they have remained a popular piece of mens jewellery since their creation.
