There is something extra special and quite simply mesmerising about antique Heraldic seal fobs.
This fine Georgian intaglio seal fob is crafted in 9ct gold with an openwork scrolling design to the top with an integral bale and a gold bezel frame.
It is set with a rich red carnelian stone which has been carved with a Heraldic coat of arms and initials in fancy script, the initials appear to be IP or PI.
The coat of arms features a griffin crowned with a coronet, this tells us that the seal must have belonged to someone very important, being such a fine and large example, this wouldn't be surprising.
The crown or coronet was permitted for use by those only with peerage of nobility or family lineage, the griffin symbolises strength, military connection and leadership.
A wonderful historic piece, it looks fantastic worn on an antique gold chain or attached to a chunky gold Albert chain.
Marks and era:
It is unmarked, tests as 9ct gold, Georgian era, c1800s
Condition:
Good used condition overall, signs of use and wear commensurate with age, some light surface wear, very well kept.
Approx measurements:
1.25" height / length
1" width at the base
