A stunning antique, late Victorian 15ct yellow gold and enamelled mourning brooch.
A very elegant and elaborate design the brooch features two overlapping arches joined each end to form an infinity symbol.
Symbolising remembering someone infinitely or love infinite.
It has pretty gold scrollwork to the top and bottom and the gold is very rich and warm contrasting with the two colours of enamel beautifully.
The black enamel representing death and grief and the white enamel signifying that the mourned may have been young when they passed as was often the meaning behind much earlier mourning pieces.
It has an old C type clasp, the pin is a base metal.
Condition:
Fair used condition overall, tiny chips to some areas of enamel but overall good, light surface wear commensurate with age, some evidence of soft solder at the hinge end.
Unmarked tests as 15ct gold.
English make c1900, late Victorian
Approx measurements:
1.75" width
1" height / length
Weighs approx 5.42 grams
