A gorgeous antique, late Victorian, 15ct gold, Aquamarine and seed pearl crescent brooch.
A beautiful curved rich gold open moon with an openwork design, set to the centre with a lovely sky blue aquamarine, approx 0.35ct.
The crescent is adorned with scrolling foliate in rich yellow gold set with creamy seed pearls and a further two aquamarine each end.
Crescent moons were a popular motif in Victorian and later Edwardian jewellery, they are attributed to a number of meanings from feminine strength to changes or new beginnings / chapters.
This brooch can be worn in many ways and is a pretty and versatile piece with such an unusual design, it really stands out from the crowd and the Aquamarine and pearl work so well together.
The brooch is marked on the reverse 15c, late Victorian era c1890s
It has an old C type clasp and pin fastener and an attached safety chain, safety chain is base metal.
