This rare antique mourning bracelet is certainly an interesting and unusual piece, perfect for the collector of mourning jewellery.
It is a chunky wide cuff style bracelet made up from tightly woven strands of brown hair held together with rich bloomed 18ct gold spacers.
The bracelet fastens with the most wonderful clasp and this is really the best part of this magnificent piece in my opinion.
It has a heavy 18ct gold clasp with a glazed front panel, the panel contains a number of sprigs of different coloured hair arranged and secured with gold thread.
The reverse of the clasp has a number of names engraved into the back, a list of lost loved ones, those whose hair is enclosed in the front, the end caps to the hair also have initials engraved into them for those passed.
It is a very unusual piece, a true memorial and very beautiful.
Marks and era:
Early Victorian era, c1850s, unmarked, electronically tests as 18ct gold
Approx measurements'
6.25" length
1.25" total width
Weighs approx 21.28 grams
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some minor surface wear to the hair strands, very well kept.
