A very pretty late Victorian, 15ct gold pearl set crescent brooch.
A beautiful curved rich gold moon, star set with three split pearls.
Crescent moons were a popular motif in Victorian and later Edwardian jewellery, they are attributed to a number of meanings from feminine strength to changes or new beginnings / chapters.
This brooch can be worn in many ways and is a pretty and versatile piece.
The brooch is unmarked tests as 15ct, late Victorian era c1890s
It has an old C type clasp and pin fastener.
Approx measurements:
0.90" length
0.80" width at the widest point
Weighs approx 1.82 grams
Condition:
Fair used condition overall, signs of use and wear, small widening in one area of the side where a safety chain was attached, pin base metal, tarnish to the reverse, split pearls with dulling and nacre loss, some scratches to the gold.
