An attractive and highly detailed antique micro mosaic brooch.
Early 19th century it depicts a finely done image of St Peter's Square, The Vatican, typical of the grand tour genre of jewellery and curios.
The tessarae is set into a smooth black onyx cabochon and this is further set into a claw silver brooch mount with a long pin and C type clasp.
The mount is open backed and has a long pin that protrudes from the brooch.
Good condition overall, tessarae is all intact, there are some tiny flea bites to the onyx at the front along with some minor light scratches, the reverse has a small chip to the onyx, silver shows patina and has a small steel repair, no cracks.
Metal acid tests as silver the pin is steel.
