A truly magical piece of antique Georgian mourning jewellery.
This early 19th century locket is designed as a padlock, circular in shape with a hairwork border and beautiful tiny cannetille and floral detailing in rich 18ct yellow gold.
Such delicate and fine craftsmanship, these types of locket or pendant were often worn as a symbol of love, the image of the padlock with a key and a heart literally means the key to my heart.
This is likely a mourning piece which makes it even more sentimental as it also embodies remembering a loved one that holds the key to our heart.
The locket opens up so can hold a photograph or picture or even a tiny memento, it is currently empty.
The perfect piece for the collector of mourning or Georgian era jewellery, these pieces are increasingly difficult to find.
Marks and era:
Early 19th century, Georgian era, unmarked, electronically tests as 18ct gold to most areas, locket bezel frame tests 9ct and the heart is gold plated.
