This antique Georgian era foiled Quartz ring is simply enchanting.
It is full of old world charm and mystery, a ring I simply adore for the stories it could tell and it's beautiful Georgian craftsmanship.
It is a rare find as it electronically tests as 12ct gold, this is a rare gold carat to find and although it wasn't standardised until 1854 you can still find the rare older piece made from this carat of gold.
It features a heavily chased and engraved band with typical flora designs, the front is set with a foil backed quartz stone.
The back of the band is smooth and the reverse of the ring head is engraved simply - C McKinty.
It has been well loved and has its faults (described below) but is such a charming piece nonetheless, likely Irish origin.
Marks and era:
Unmarked tests as approx 12ct gold, late Georgian era c1820s
Condition:
Fair used condition overall, some age commensurate surface wear and signs of use, some dings to the back of the band, some tarnished areas to the gold, small split to the edge of the face in the gold, stone moves around in the setting somewhat with an audible rattle.
UK/AU ring size O
US ring size 7
EU ring size 54.51
Total weight 2.97 grams
Approx 10.9mm length ring head and 2mm band width at the most narrow point
Unless otherwise stated gemstone weights are estimated within the setting and are approximate, they should be used as a guide rather than a guarantee.
The ring does not come boxed, box shown in the images for illustration purposes only.
