I love a good interesting antique piece like this charming Victorian 9ct gold watch key fob.
It is designed as the lower leg and hoof of a horse, very finely detailed right down to the nails in the shoe, this would have belonged to a more wealthy gentleman.
The base of the hoof is set with a cool white Chalcedony, not engraved so could be personalised of desired.
The entire piece is crafted in rich 9ct yellow gold, the key section used to wind the pocket watch is reinforced inside with steel as was common practice on these pieces to maintain strength.
Would have been worn on an Albert chain to accompany a nice gold pocket watch to wind when required.
To the centre of the key there is a small gold bale ready to hang from an Albert chain or could make an amazing pendant too!
A wonderfully charming piece for the collection.
Marks and era:
Unmarked electronically tests as 9ct gold, key section reinforced with steel inside, Victorian era c1880s
Approx measurements'
1.6" length
0.45" width
Weighs approx 3.31 grams
Condition:
Good used condition overall, surface wear and signs of use commensurate with age, slight wear to the gold at the very end of the key from winding.
