They say good things come in small packages and that is certainly the case with this magnificent piece.
This is an early Victorian watch key and fob in 9ct gold, not just any old key though this is designed as the head of a dog.
This charming pooch has so much attention to detail when up close you can feel the craftsmanship that went into this piece.
Would have been worn on an Albert chain to accompany a nice gold pocket watch to wind when required.
The base of the head acts as an intaglio seal though the matrix is not carved, it is set with a citrine stone likely foil backed.
To the base of the key there is a small fixed gold bale ready to hang from an Albert chain or could make an amazing pendant too!
So much going on in this sweet little piece.
A scarce and wonderfully charming piece for the collection.
