Antique Georgian portrait pendant, Mourning locket, 9ct gold
Antique Georgian portrait pendant, Mourning locket, 9ct gold
You will fall in love with this exceptional late Georgian, portrait miniature pendant, so rich in historical beauty and character.
Housed in a rich 9ct yellow gold frame it has a fine portrait of a gentleman to one side, he is dressed with a high collared white shirt with ruffles and blue frock coat, he has dark hair, reminiscent of the late 18th century style dress.
To the verso there is a section of dark brown plaited and woven hair, this has moved and adjusted somewhat leaving a small gap.
The portrait and hairwork are both set under slightly convex glass covers and secured with the gold frame.
There is a jump ring added to the top.
Shown in the picture on a contemporary organza necklace for illustration, it is a very heavy piece and will need a substantial chain or ribbon to hold.
Marks and era:
Unmarked, tests as 9ct gold, Georgian era c1800s
Condition:
Good overall with signs of age and use, some light surface scratches to the gold frame and glass covers, the glass panels have a very fine gold trim around the edges and this has come away in places though does not detract, some debris under the glass.
Approx measurements:
2.60" height with bale / jump ring
1.75" width
26.53 grams weight
