Antique Victorian paste Starburst pendant, Sterling silver
Antique Victorian paste Starburst pendant, Sterling silver
This antique paste starburst pendant is really quite something.
It is a very grand piece, large, heavy and very well made, it is an early Victorian piece, there was both a removable brooch fitting and a pendant fitting in the past but the brooch fitting has been removed.
It is modelled in cool sterling silver as a big sunburst that looks like a flaming star, it is adorned with sparkling old cut paste stones with the largest to the centre, these stones give lots of magical sparkle particularly in low light.
The pendant has an integral silver hook bale and looks great hung from a a nice antique silver long chain or a black velvet necklace.
Paste is a type of Flint glass, specially hand cut and designed, used for centuries as an alternative to diamonds and gemstones with its roots going way back to the Roman empire, paste jewellery was highly sought after in the 18th and 19th centuries and is very collectable today.
A very beautiful antique pendant indeed!
