Antique Georgian Rock crystal comet brooch, 9ct gold
Antique Georgian Rock crystal comet brooch, 9ct gold
A fabulous antique Georgian era Rock Crystal comet brooch.
The design is simple yet very effective with the wonderfully sparkling large rock crystal with its expertly faceted cut and rich 9ct gold chased and engraved mount.
These comet brooches were created as a response to the huge popularity and fascination with comets following the predicted sighting of Halley's comet in 1759, this was where it obtained it's name as the man that predicted its sighting was Royal astronomer Sir Edmund Halley, the comet was again sighted in 1835 which set off the popularity of pieces such as this, made in a vast array of gemstones and metals to represent the famed comet.
Comet pieces are hugely collectable today and this one is the perfect piece to add to your collection!
