This antique Mid Victorian Garnet Cabochon mourning brooch is sumptuously beautiful.
Rich buttery 15ct bloomed yellow gold, the repousse scrollwork front housing a big juicy red garnet cabochon to the centre.
To the verso the brooch has an enclosed lock of tightly woven black brown hair under glazing.
It fastens with an old c type clasp and pin fastener.
A truly beautiful mourning piece that is subtle and grand at the same time, very versatile, this could be worn in many ways.
Marks and era:
Unmarked, tests as 15ct gold, Victorian era, C1870s.
Condition:
Fair used condition overall, surface wear and signs of use commensurate with age, small split in the gold at the front, garnet with some minor surface wear, pin is base metal.
