You can't help but be bewitched by this fine antique Victorian 'witches' heart brooch.
This gorgeous piece features double witches style hearts in rich 22ct yellow gold, each heart is adorned with lush vibrant turquoise cabochons in various hues.
The hearts are joined together with a gorgeous seed pearl set bow which appears to for the two together in unison.
Such a magnificent piece, steeped on history and symbolism!
In ancient times the witches heart symbol was used to ward off evil spirits.
In the 18th century however they took in a different meaning and this was one of love, they were said to represent being bewitched by the love for or of another and were often presented as gifts or love tokens.
This brooch is most certainly a love token as it also features the bow which symbolises holding the two hearts together or tying them to one another securing the bond

Unmarked electronically tests as 22ct gold to the reverse and approx 14ct gold to the pin, C1890s Victorian era.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, light surface wear commensurate with age, very well kept.
