A truly magnificent antique 9ct Rose and yellow gold signet ring.
It has a shield shaped face with an engraved monogram of initials in heavy gothic script, appears to be HUL, each letter has a different style of engraving.
It has chunky raised and shaped and scrolling shoulders with some yellow gold tones.
It has a wide smooth polished 9ct gold band, the ring has both rose and yellow gold tones to it but is mostly finished in Rose gold.
It has full hallmarks to the inner band and short hallmarks to the back of the face, highly sought after Chester Assay office, 9ct gold, 1919, maker Alfred George Griffiths.
This is a very grand ring and is an unusually large size for an antique piece.
It is a nice weighty ring and chunky ring and would make a perfect gift.
Signet rings derive their name from the Latin for signature, they were popular throughout history in men's jewellery and were often carved with family crests or signatures and used as stamps or intaglios, later they remained popular as a fashion choice and they have remained a popular piece of mens jewellery since their creation.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, some surface wear and surface scratches commensurate with age.
Approx weight: 4.02 g.
Ring face approx 14 mm length, 5mm band width.
UK/AU ring size X
US ring size 11⅝
