A handsome antique 12ct gold and bloodstone signet ring, mid Victorian era.
It has a shield shaped face with a shield cut bloodstone slab set into it.
It has chunky raised and deeply engraved shoulders, very decorative and with a naturalistic design.
It has a smooth 12ct yellow gold band
It has lots of rustic lived in charm and has been well loved but this absolutely adds to its old world charm, the setting has some holes carved through, visible from the front and back, they do not appear to have held stones though they may have small stones added if desired.
Signet rings derive their name from the Latin for signature, they were popular throughout history in men's jewellery and were often carved with family crests or signatures and used as stamps or intaglios, later they remained popular as a fashion choice and they have remained a popular piece of mens jewellery since their creation.
No marks, tests as approx 12ct gold, Victorian era c1870s.
Condition:
Fair used condition overall, some surface wear and surface scratches commensurate with age, the band has evidence of one or more resizes with some nicks / pitting within, bloodstone does not sit completely flush.
Approx weight: 3.28g.
Ring face approx 8.6mm length, 2.3mm band width.
UK/AU ring size M
US ring size 6
EU / MM ring size 51.87
