Citrine - The November Birthstone

This blog post is dedicated to the November birthstone the Citrine.

Citrine is actually one of the two November birthstones the other being Topaz.

Citrine is a wonderful, cheerful and warm stone, it is a variety of Quartz and comes in shades ranging from pale light yellow to deep cognac orange, it's name comes from the French word Citrin which means lemon.

It has a Mohs scale score of 7 which means it is a fairly hardy stone and can withstand daily wear well.

                                                              
Citrine in jewellery has been used since ancient times and it became a popular choice in the 18th century in Georgian jewellery, this popularity carried on throughout the decades with some wonderful jewels being created right through the 19th and 20th centuries, so popular that it is still used to create magnificent pieces of jewellery today.
                                                                                                                                  
It has been known to symbolise wealth and prosperity along with having calming and healing properties, in ancient times people believed it had the power to protect against evil and even venom.
